5 Ways To Stop Mindless Evening Snacking

It’s 8 p.m., you finally get a chance to sit down and relax, but what do you do first? Go to the kitchen to get a snack. Maybe some chocolate, a handful of chips or maybe a few cookies. I mean you just ate dinner and you aren’t really hungry, but you have to eat a snack while watching Chicago Fire…Right?

This has been me for SO many years. I always get home after a super fantastic day of healthy habits and “clean eating” Just to YOLO in the evening. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a treat after dinner or a little dessert. However when mindless snacking becomes a habit that is hindering you from reaching your fitness goals you have to take a step back and make some changes.

Today I’d like to share 5 ideas of things you can do to stop mindless evening snacking.

Mindless snacking in the evening often occurs when you are bored or maybe even restless. Eating when you are bored is not a good idea because it can easily lead to over eating which could lead to unwanted weight gain.

Here are 5 ideas of things you could do instead of snacking.

1. Drink Tea

If you have been snacking at night for a while, your body might be accustomed to having something to eat after dinner. Instead of having a calorie dense snack I like to drink tea. Drinking tea allows you to still be able to consume something after dinner but it is lower in calories than chocolate or chips but it is also delicious.

2. Paint your nails

You can’t eat a snack if your nails are wet. If you are a guy paint your wife’s nails you can’t eat a snack while you are doing that either.

3. Go for a walk

This is the time of year where the sun doesn’t set until well after 8. Instead of sitting down and watching T.V. take a walk with your family. This is a good way to keep from snacking, get in some extra activity and spend time with your family.


4. Take a bath

Spend some time pampering yourself with a bath while reflecting on your goals. Don’t allow a 30 second snack to derail your progress or your confidence. Can you say LUSH?


5. Go to bed!

Last but not least, when night-time cravings call and you know it isn’t true hunger…take your behind to bed! 😉 None of us really get enough sleep do we? Break an old habit of night-time snacking with a new habit of getting to bed earlier. You will feel much better about your choice in the morning!
